Not a typical friday

It was friday again and as usual I wanted to go shopping to Mariahilf. But first of all the weather was so bad, that you wouldn't let your proverbial dog out, and secondly I wasn't feeling very well either. So the combination of those two facts let me to decide to stay at home.

So I relaxed on the couch - fluffy cat between my feet - and afterwards played a bit of Magic 2015, UnEpic and Guild Wars 2 before going back onto the couch for watching tv series.

Es war wieder einmal Freitag und eigentlich wollte ich ja nach Mariahilf gehen. Doch auf der einen Seite war das Wetter derart unwirtlich, dass man den sprichwörtlichen Hund nicht auf die Strasse gehetzt hätte und zum anderen habe ich mich gesundheitlich nicht auf der Höhe gefühlt. Diese Kombination hat mich dann davon überzeugt zuhause zu bleiben.

Nach ein wenig ausruhen auf der Couch - Flauschkatze auf den Beinen inklusive - habe ich dann ein wenig Magic 2015, UnEpic und Guild Wars 2 gespielt bevor wir wieder auf die Couch gefallen sind - diesmal zum Serien schauen.

New games from the Humble Bundle

Yesterday was a quiet evening at home. After a great dinner I at first played a bit of Guild Wars 2. In between the things I managed to do the cats wanted to be entertained and announced it their way. So we felt compelled to do something about it. Afte everyone with four paws was satisfied I went back to play some more Magic 2015.

But then the new weekly Humble Bundle arrived and before I could notice it I had some new games to test. I especially like one game, which is UnEpic. It's a RPG like the Castlevania series with a lot of roleplaying clichés and humour.

After that it was couch time with the most recent episode of Arrow and an old one from Top Gear before it was bedtime.

Gestern war ein recht ruhiger Abend zuhause. Nach einem guten Nachtmahl habe ich zunächst ein bisschen in Guild Wars 2 Sachen erledigt. Zwischendurch waren die Katzen bereit bespaßt zu werden und haben das auch entsprechend kund getan. Also waren wir in der Hinsicht aktiv. Danach habe ich dann Magic 2015 weitergespielt.

Dann kam das neue Humble Bundle der Woche heraus und schon hatte ich wieder neue Spiele zum Ausprobieren. Speziell gut gefallen hat mit UnEpic. Ein RPG im Stile von Castlevania aber mit einer Unmenge an Rollenspielklischees und -humor.

Dann ging es auf die Couch zur aktuellen Folge von Arrow und einer alten Folge Top Gear bevor es ins Bett ging.

Exciting day

Yesterday I was at work for only a short period of time, because at noon a was at the hospital to talk about the results from my stay for my sleeping disorder. There was nothing new to report, so the diagnosis is still valid. Now it was time to talk about options and there were two of them. First I could get an operation rather soon and the second one is wearing a mask while sleeping. The second option and resulting examiniations will make me wait another 8 months - so I'm quite pleased (no, I'm not) that I pay for health care that is delivered sometime later.

After that we went to the inner city to Koi for lunch. It was execellent again and we even had a celebrity sitting next to us - Andreas Gabalier.

Afterwards we went home, from where I worked the rest of the afternoon.

Then I baked the sweet treat of the week - an almond cake.

IN the evening I played some Magic 2015 and Guild Wars 2 before going onto the couch and watching the recent episodes of The Flash and Marvel's Agent Carter.

Gestern war ich nur kurz in der Arbeit, weil ich zu Mittag die Befundbesprechung vom Schlaflabor hatte. Dort gab es allerdings nichts Neues zu berichten, die Diagnose ist immer noch dieselbe und ich habe jetzt die Wahl zwischen einer korrektiven Operation und einer Schlafmaske. Ersteres sollte relativ rasch möglich sein und zweiteres bzw. ein Kontrolltermin hat wieder eine Wartezeit von 8 Monaten - da freut man sich doch, dass man Geld für das Gesundheitssystem zahlen darf und die Leistung irgendwann erbracht wird.

Danach sind wir dann in die Innenstadt zum Koi essen gegangen. Es war wie immer gut und wir hatte sogar einen prominenten Tischnachbarn - Andreas Gabalier.

Danach ging es nach Hause, von wo aus ich dann den restlichen Nachmittag gearbeitet habe.

Dann habe ich die Süßspeise der Woche gebacken - einen Mandelkuchen.

Am Abend haben ich dann wieder Magic 2015 und Guild Wars 2 gespielt bevor es auf die Couch ging zu den aktuellen Folgen von The Flash und Marvel's Agent Carter.

Guild Wars 2 - another character ready to be played

Yesterday I again got a very good dinne at my parents': Kaiserschmarrn.

After that I went home where I was eagerly awaited by two playful cats. The two furballs were active throughout the evening just though as they have been sleeping all day...

Later I played some Magic 2015 with my dear followed by some dialies and crafting in Guild Wars 2. Finally I got everything for my guardian and I take wait to test her out against the living world content.

For the evening entertainment we watched the most recent episode of Sleepy Hollow followed by an old episode of Top Gear.

Gestern gab es wieder ein sehr gutes Abendessen bei meinen Eltern: Kaiserschmarrn.

Danach ging es nach Hause und dort wurde ich von spielwütigen Katzen empfangen. Die beiden waren den ganzen Abend so aktiv, als hätten sie sonst den ganzen Tag nur geschlafen...

Später habe ich dann mit meinem Schatz ein wenig Magic 2015 gespielt und danach ging es nach Guild Wars 2 für die Dailies und ich habe es endlich geschafft für meinen Guardian entsprechende Ausrüstung anzufertigen. Sie wird dann demnächst versuchsweise wieder gespielt und ich hoffe, dass alles klappt.

Als Abendunterhaltung haben uns dann zuletzt die aktuelle Folge von Sleepy Hollow angeschaut, gefolgt von einer alten Folge Top Gear.

Film review: Mortdecai

Yesterday it was time again to go to the movies with friends. For that occasion we chose the most recent Johnny Depp movie: Mortdecai

Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) is an english aristocrat, who specializes in art. And with specialize I mean he does illegal deald with shady people. Still or perhaps because of that he is almost bankrupt and he's looking for a way to keep up his live style together with his estate, wife (Gweyneth Paltrow) and butler Jock (Paul Bettany). So it's nice of fate that a famous Goya painting has been stolen and MI5 (Ewan McGregor) wants him to help them retrieve it again - for a finder's fee of course.

So now starts the hunt across the globe, while Charlie is doing his things and his butler has to rescue him from the resulting desasters. But his wife is also trying to help and soon the trio is closing in on the thieves.

The movie is - like a friend of mine correctly stated - a remake of the classical Pink Panther films. A sappy investigator (Clouseau/Mortdecai) tries to solve a crime while his butler (Cato/Jock) receives all the beating and has to help his master solve the mysteries as well. There's also a quite striking similarity between Clouseau and Mortdecai - thanks to the moustache.

The story is quite existing but the jokes are one-sided. Most of the time they are about Charlie's freshly grown moustache - which everyone including his wife hates - Jock's amorous adventures during the investigation and Charlie's failing marriage, while an old admirer of hers (Ewan McGregor) is waiting for his chance. Inbetween there's some story as well, but this is quickly interrupted by the next joke of one of the above categories.

Conclusion: In theory I liked the film, although I was hoping for another kind of humour. Johnny Depp does a great job playing a helpless aristorcat - not unlike his Jack Sparrow role - but this kind of humour didn't quite get me. For me this isn't a movie you have to see in the cinema and it's more like very shallow entertainment.

Gestern war nach langer Zeit wieder Kino mit Freunden angesagt. Wir haben uns dazu den aktuellen Film mit Johnny Depp angeschaut: Mortdecai

Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) ist ein englische Aristokrat, der im Kunstgewerbe tätig ist. Und mit tätig meine ich er macht zwielichtige Geschäfte mit diversen ebenso zwielichtigen Gesellen. Trotzdem, oder gerade deswegen, ist er pleite und sucht nach einer Möglichkeit sich und sein Anwesen samt Frau (Gweyneth Paltrow) und Diener Jock (Paul Bettany) erhalten zu können. Da trifft es sich sehr gut, dass ein Goya gestohlen wurde und der MI5 (Ewan McGregor) ihn bei der Auffindung um Hilfe bittet - für einen geringen Finderlohn, versteht sich.

Und nun beginnt das muntere Treiben rund um die Welt, bei dem Charlie alle Register seines Könnens zieht und von seinem Diener dann immer wieder aus den daraus resultierenden Komplikationen gerettet werden muss. Auch seine Frau ist nicht ganz untätig und so kommt es, dass das Trio immer weiter den Tätern auf die Spur kommt.

Der Film ist - wie ein Freund von mir sehr richtig bemerkt hat - eigentlich eine Neuauflage vom Rosaroten Panther. Ein vertrottelter Ermittler (Clouseau/Mortdecai) versucht einen Diebstahl aufzuklären und sein Diener (Cato/Jock) bekommt alles Schlechte ab und muss ihn auch noch dazu immer wieder retten. Auch eine gewissen Ähnlichkeit zwischen Clouseau und Mortdecai - dank Schnauzbart - ist auch nicht zu übersehen.

Die Story ist relativ spannend und der Witz ist etwas einseitig. Zentrale Themen bei den humoristischen Einlagen sind Charlie's ganz neuer Schnauzbart - den jeder, inkl. seiner Frau, hasst - Jock's amourösen Abenteuer während der Ermittlungen und Charlie's kriselnde Ehe, bei der ihr alter Verehrer (Ewan McGregor) schon bereit steht um einzuspringen. Dazwischen kommen immer wieder Teile der Handlung vor, bevor der nächste Kalauer aus oben genannten Kategorien abgeschossen wird.

Fazit: Prinzipiell hat mir der Film recht gut gefallen, ich habe mir allerdings eine andere Art von Humor erwartet. Johnny Depp ist in der Rolle des hilflosen Aristokraten zwar wunderbar - Parallelen zu Darstellung von Jack Sparrow sind vorhanden - aber der seichte Humor hat mich nicht ganz überzeugt. Für mich nicht unbedingt ein Film den man im Kino sehen muss, er fällt eher unter den Begriff der leichten Unterhaltung.

Guild Wars 2 afternoon

Yesterday we were invited by my parents to Gschamsten Diener for a great lunch.

After that we went home quite quickly because the weather was not good and it was actually quite windy again. Our cats didn't expect us to come home that quickly and so they were sleepy when we arrived back home.

But that didn't prevent them from wanting to have fun and food and we provided both for them. Afterwards we meet with friends in Guild Wars 2 and helped them finish their personal story. This took longer than I expected and so we played with the cats again right afterwards before we went onto the couch for the most recent episodes of QI and Top Gear.

Gestern wurden wir von meinen Eltern zum Gschamsten Diener auf ein gutes Mittagessen eingeladen.

Danach sind wir schnell wieder nach Hause gegangen, weil das Wetter nicht gerade optimal und warm war. Dort angekommen wurden wir von zwei verschlafenen Katzen erwartet, die uns scheinbar nicht so schnell wieder zurück erwartet hatten.

Nach ein bisschen Action und Futter sind wir dann mit Freunden in Guild Wars 2 unterwegs gewesen und haben den Abschluss der Personal Story gemacht. Da dies ein wenig länger gedauert hat, haben wir uns danach gleich noch einmal mit den Katzen beschäftigt, bevor es dann auf die Couch ging zu den aktuellen Folgen von QI und Top Gear.

Guild Wars 2 - Heart of Thorns

After breakfast we went in to do some shopping this saturday, although flying would be more specific, as it was quite windy again. For lunch we went to Sichuan and got some great food.

Back home we entertained our cats, since they were very active and wanted us to play with them.

Later that afternoon it was finally time for the big reveal of ArenaNet - the producer of Guild Wars 2 - during the PAX about the future of Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2 - Heart of Thorns

- it's the first real expansion for the game
- a release date or price is still unknown
- a new profession is added (Revenant)
- PvP and WvW get a complete new map each
- a new region (Maguuma Jungle) is ready to be explored
- for character development they are adding masteries and specializings
- guilds can obtain guild halls
- precursors (for legendary weapons) will be included in the rewards for epic achievements

This all sounds very good so far, but I wished they would have announced a release date as well. So we now have to wait for the weekly reveals as to when it will finally arrive.

Nach dem Frühstück sind wir am Samstag einkaufen gegangen oder besser fast geflogen, da es etwas windig war. Zu Mittag sind wir beim Sichuan eingekehrt und haben uns gut versorgen lassen.

Wieder zuhause haben wir uns dann mit den Mieze Katzen beschäftigt, die sehr aufgeweckt und spiellustig waren.

Am späteren Nachmittag war es dann soweit, die große Ankündigung von ArenaNet - dem Hersteller von Guild Wars 2 - auf der PAX zur Zukunft von Guild Wars 2 wurde live übertragen.

Guild Wars 2 - Heart of Thorns

- es ist die erste echte Expansion für das Spiel
- ein Veröffentlichungsdatum und einen Preis gibt es noch nicht
- es kommt eine neue Klasse dazu (Revenant)
- sowohl für PvP als auch für WvW kommt jeweils eine komplett neue Karte dazu
- es gilt ein neues Gebiet (Maguuma Jungle) zu erkunden
- die Charakterentwicklung wird mittels neuer Spezialisierungen und Masteries erfolgen
- Gilden bekommen die Möglichkeit Guilden Hallen zu erwerben
- Precursors (für Legendary Weapons) werden als Belohnungen für epische Achievements erhältlich sein

Das klingt alles schon sehr gut, nur ein Releasedatum wäre auch nicht schlecht gewesen. So dürfen wir jetzt warten bis weitere Informationen in den nächsten Wochen veröffentlicht werden.

Friday - why can't it be friday all the week

It was friday again and we didn't leave the flat. Ok, just joking, of course we went to Mariahilf for shopping and strolling. We started at Westbahnhof and first visited Starbucks to get the birthday drink for my dear. Piece of advice though, avoid the cinnemon syrup as it really tastes very artificial.

Then we walked down Mariahilferstrasse and after some quick stops at various shops we arrived at Planet Harry. Some chatting and buying later we left again for getting food.

The food this week was provided by Natsu and Blutaumüller. And then it was time to go home again, where our cats were waiting for us and demanded their tribute.

In the evening I played a bit Guild Wars 2 before we went onto the couch for series watching. This time it was the most recent episodes of Helix and Constantine.

Es war Freitag und wir sind nicht aus dem Haus gegangen. Ach was, natürlich waren wir unterwegs und haben Mariahilf unsicher gemacht und teilweise auch aufgekauft. Beginnend vom Westbahnhof sind wir zunächst beim Starbucks eingefallen um den Geburtstagsdrink von meinem Schatz abzuholen. Gleich ein Tipp von uns, den Cinnemon Syrup nicht nehmen, der schmeckt nur künstlich.

Dann sind wir die Mariahilferstrasse runtergegangen und nach ein paar kurzen Abstechern bei diversen Geschäften dann im Planet Harry gelandet. Ein bisschen plaudern und einkaufen und schon waren wir wieder am Weg weiter.

Die nächsten Stationen waren dann kulinarischer Natur: Natsu und Blutaumüller. Dann ging es wieder nach Hause wo wir von unseren Katzen schon erwartet wurden und wo wir unseren Tribut in Fisch zahlen durften.

Am Abend war ich dann ein wenig in Guild Wars 2 unterwegs bevor wir auf die Couch gefallen sind und uns aktuelle Serien wie Helix und Constantine angeschaut haben.

Not too busy afternoon

Yesterday we tested some more games, although not board games but rather card games on the PC, as we were going through the latest Humble Bundle games.

After that there was a long playing session with our cats before I did my dailies in Guild Wars 2 and then it was couch time again.

We watched the latest episodes of Arrow and Marvel's Agent Carter.

Gestern sind wir am Abend zuhause wieder zusammen gesessen und haben ein paar Spiele ausprobiert. Allerdings keine Brettspiele sondern ein paar der Kartenspiele für den PC aus dem aktuellen Humble Bundle.

Nach einer ausgiebigen Spielesession mit den Katzen habe ich dann noch meine Dailies in Guild Wars 2 absolviert und dann sind wir auf die Couch gefallen.

A magical evening

Yesterday I was quickly shopping for the weekly baking, after I came home from work. This week I tried a variant of Paul Hollywood's Swiss Roll with chocolate and cocos.

After that/while baking we went to play some Magic 2015 - the PC game - and some heavy duelling. Afterwards I did my dailies in Guild Wars 2 and then it was time to entertain the cats.

A bit exhausted we then went onto the couch and wacthed the latest episodes of The Flash and Galavant.

The next few days I will post pictures of our tom cat while he is hunting his food in our bed. Some of those are a bit blurry, but the expressions of Gandalf are worth posting those pictures anyway.

Gestern war ich nach der Arbeit noch schnell für das wöchentliche Backen einkaufen. Ich habe diesmal eine Variation von Paul Hollywood's Swiss Roll mit Schoko-Kokos gemacht.

Danach/während dem Backen waren wir in Magic 2015 - dem PC Spiel - unterwegs und haben uns kräftig duelliert. Anschließend habe ich noch die Dailies in Guild Wars 2 absolviert und dann ging es zum Katzenbespassen über.

Derart gut ausgepowert sind wir dann auf die Couch gefallen und haben uns die aktuellen Folgen von The Flash und Galavant angeschaut.

Die nächsten Tage gibt es Bilder vom Kater beim Zucki jagen im Bett. Leider sind ein paar unscharf geworden, aber die Posen sind es trotzdem wert gepostet zu werden.

Creative evening

Yesterday I was at my parents' for dinner and I got delicious pancakes.

After that I went home and then to the vet for our cat's special food and medicine. Back home again the ladies have already started their creative work and meanwhile I did some achievements in Guild Wars 2.

At the end of the creative work we watched trailers of the upcoming movies we are interested in. After we were alone again we played with the cats before going back to the couch to watch the latest episodes of Sleepy Hollow, Castle and Galavant.

Gestern war ich bei meinen Eltern zum Abendessen und es gab wieder köstliche Palatschinken.

Danach bin ich nach Hause gefahren und dann zur Tante Tierarzt gegangen um dem Kater sein Futter und seine Medikamente zu kaufen. Zuhause angekommen waren die Damen schon aktiv mit ihrem Kreativabend und ich habe ein bisschen in Guild Wars 2 Achievements gemacht.

Zum Abschluss des Kreativabends haben wir uns dann Trailer der interessanten Filme der nächsten Zeit angeschaut. Als wir dann wieder allein waren haben wir noch unsere Katzen bespasst und sind dann wieder auf die Couch gefallen um uns die aktuellen Folgen von Sleepy Hollow, Castle und Galavant anzuschauen.

Eight minutes game time

Since it was the beginning of a new week I came home somewhat exhausted. There were already cats waiting for me though, who wanted to be played with and they got their wish fulfilled.

Some time later we then continued on our quest to test and play more board games: Eight-Minute Empire

Conclusion: while it is quickly explained and played, it lacks depth and thus will probably end up in storage.

Later still we went onto the couch and watched the last two episodes of Constantine and the most recent one of QI angeschaut.

Gestern war Wochenbeginn in der Arbeit und da bin ich dann etwas erschöpft nach Hause gekommen. Dort wurde ich schon von Katzen empfangen, die nach Beschäftigung gesucht und dann auch durch uns gefunden haben.

Etwas später dann haben wir weiter gemacht und endlich wieder eines unserer Brettspiele aus dem Kasten getestet: Eight-Minute Empire

Fazit: an sich schnell erklärt und gespielt, fehlt es aber auch irgendwie an Spieltiefe und wird vermutlich auch ins Endlager wandern.

Danach war dann Couch angesagt und wir haben uns die letzte zwei Episoden von Constantine und die aktuelle von QI angeschaut.
